The Poet Who Buys Words

You give me your story
And I’ll note them in poetry.
All the rough edges, the hardships,
I’ll polish them to finery.

You pay me the words
You regret in saying.
In return I’ll release you,
From the pain you’re bearing.

But a warning in passing –
This ignorance could be of blessing,
Or you may find what you hold dear
Missing.

You choose;
The journeys with suffering –
Erase them without burden.

Or keep them,
With what happened to remind
That you are living.

For in an embrace
Of joy,
It paints our life in colours.

And in embracing woe,
It breaks us into pieces –
For us to rearrange them to grow.

You choose.
To be ignorant in bliss
And live alone with an empty peace.

Or like all others,
Understand the aches
And support each other when love was brief.

You choose.
Will you give me your story
And I’ll note them in poetry?
Or bear your anguish and misery
And learn what it means to live?

You choose.
