my lonely friend

I call her my lonely friend.
For she’ll only come out
When everyone has left.

Rarely she makes an appearance,
But often
She stays for long periods.

And I’ll take her out
To enjoy good food,
Shopping and sometimes to dance.

And for a little while
She does try to blend
In with the crowd.

But in the end,
She’ll always come back;
Silently holding my hand.

Often at those times then,
I get quite upset.
For I hardly had time to rest.

But she won’t let me go;
Even if I made threats.
For I am her possession, she confessed.

So she keeps clinging on,
With nothing I do could make her leave,
Thus I’m left helpless – as the cycle repeats.
